About me

Product design leader with 11+ years of experience, based in Nairobi.
I've spent the last decade-plus designing and shipping products at national scale, in regulated environments where the design problem is trust and access as much as it's interface. At Safaricom, I designed the statement verification flow M-PESA's 50 million-plus users rely on. At KOKO Networks, I led a team of designers and built the design QA system used by multiple product squads.
For the past year, I've been running my own studio, advising organizations on design maturity and building AI products that serve founders, teams, and organizations.

My inspirations and interests
I'm drawn to systems that have to work under real constraints: low bandwidth, feature phones, regulatory limits, small teams. Some of my most interesting work has come from sitting with the constraint itself rather than designing around it: a USSD fallback so M-PESA verification didn't leave feature-phone users behind, or co-design workshops in youth centers in Kigali that shaped a mental health platform before a single screen was drawn. Lately that's extended to building things myself. I use Claude Code, Cursor, and other tools daily, and this year I designed and built two AI products end-to-end.

Looking ahead
Right now my focus is design maturity, helping organizations move from design as execution to design as a real input into decisions. I built that into Matrix, a diagnostic tool that scores a design function on two things: whether its practices would survive someone leaving, and whether it actually changes what the organization decides.

Let’s Work…
I've designed for users at national scale, built design systems that hold quality across distributed teams, and led design teams. Based in Nairobi, designing for humans across the globe.
